Far Side of the World

Hey everyone!

We have been in Romania for a week now.  It was quite the traveling experience getting here.  Normally we could take a bus north for 4 hours to get to the city we are in now, Constanta.  BUT because of the bad, snowy weather the mountian passes were closed and we needed to take the round-about way by train.  It took us exactly 23 hours and 50 minutes!!!!  Phew!  So we were very tired when we got here—and very glad to be here as well.

We are staying in the YWAM Constanta base.  It is three floors: on the first floor is a coffee house that they use to reach out to youth and collage kids, the second floor is the girls dorm (where i am staying), the kitchen, bathroom and community room/library, and the third floor is the boys dorm and hospitality.  It is a lovely base and we are very glad to all live in the same home together!

While we are staying here — we are working along side the base doing the ministries that they are involved with.  These are their main ministries: the coffee shop, a night shelter for girls, a day center for children, kids club and homeless ministy.  This week two students and I have been going to the kids center.  We eat lunch with the kids (the center provides this for the kids, and sometimes its the only meal that they get a day), then we spend about an hour and a half picking lice and other small creatures out of their hair, after that we do a half hour program with the kids-from singing to games to crafts and stories, then we have snack together, the kids leave and we clean the place.  Next week I will be able to get involved in some of the other ministries going on here and I have very much looking forward to that!
